“In my job, people often talk about the term safety expert, but I see myself more as a risk professional. The core of my work is about managing risks in the area of health, safety, quality and the environment. I am involved from preparing policy to supporting the project managers at the sites to control and reduce the risks as much as possible.”

Most of our employees are well aware of the risks of their specific tasks and their work environment. And they act accordingly. That shows they really take their responsibility. “For safety, transparency is of the essence to my mind. Transparency encourages people to be open about accidents and incidents. On the basis of that openness – and without the reflex or need to attribute guilt to anybody – you can learn from accidents and incidents and prevent them in the future. We are also a learning organisation in that sense, I have noticed. The network structure strengthens our approach. By learning with peers, exchanging experiences and best practice with colleagues in the Netherlands or abroad, we endeavour to improve aspects of health, safety, quality and the environment on a continuous basis.”
